Roberta Kay “Bobbie” (Hammond) Rawson went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Bobbie was born on June 18, 1943, in Mansfield, Ohio, the daughter of Chadwick William and Doris Kathleen (Stafford) Hammond. She graduated in 1961 from Mansfield Sr. High School and earned her B.B.A. in Business Administration, graduating cum laude from Cleveland State University in 1966. She married her husband Dennis A. Rawson on August 17, 1968.
Bobbie taught Business Education subjects at West Technical High School in Cleveland from 1966 to 1995 and at John Marshall High School from 1995 to 1996. She served as Yearbook Advisor, Senior Class Advisor, piloted several innovative programs in Business Education, helped with the drama department plays, senior proms, and was a reader of names for many years at graduations. Bobbie was also a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar.
She moved with her husband to Apple Valley in 1997. Bobbie was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Jelloway and was currently a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ since 2010 where she served on the Church and Ministry Boards, sang in the choir, volunteered at the Hot Meals program, co-chaired funeral luncheons, and was a liturgist, greeter, and usher. She was a former member of the Apple Valley Singers, served on the Board of Directors at the Sanctuary Community Action in Danville, sang in the Knox County Christmas Cantata, was a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and a life member of the Knox County Retired Teachers Association.
Bobbie is survived by her husband, Dennis A. Rawson, a sister, Donna Bringman of California, nieces, Kathy (Manny) Hidalgo of Arizona, and Kelly (Risa) Borrero of California, nephew, Russ Hammond of Michigan, as well as a host of cousins, friends, and the members of her husband’s family whom she considered as her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the First Congregational UCC, 200 N. Main Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Rev. Dr. Jay Marshall Groat will be officiating, and burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Bobbie’s name may be made to the Hot Meals Program or First Congregational UCC, 200 N. Main Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.
