MOUNT VERNON — The Winter Sanctuary Emergency Homeless Shelter Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Joe Springer as its new Executive Director, effective Aug. 22.

Before assuming this role, Joe has worked for the Winter Sanctuary for seven years as Operations Director and Advocate.

Springer will work to expand community partnerships, cast vision, and secure a permanent emergency shelter for the homeless in our community. As Executive Director, Springer succeeds Tim Ellis who remains on the Board of Trustees.

“It is an honor to serve The Winter Sanctuary as the Executive Director,” Springer said. “I have dedicated the last seven years of my life to expanding homeless advocacy and emergency shelter in our area.

“I am passionate about the mission of the shelter and I am excited to serve the organization in this new role.”

This mission of the Winter Sanctuary “is to provide seasonal, emergency shelter for the members of our community who experience homelessness and to connect them with resources that empower them to be successful and self-sufficient.”
