MOUNT VERNON—The United Way of Knox County, in collaboration with the county’s resource navigator, hosted the Fall Resource Fair on Sept. 24 at the Mount Vernon Energy Field House.

The event, held from 7:45 to 11 a.m., brought together 27 local agencies and enabled over 200 community members to explore the range of services and support available in Knox County.

Attendees engaged directly with representatives from diverse local organizations, who provided valuable insight into the resources essential to the well-being of individuals and families across the county.

The fair covered health care, housing assistance, mental health support, employment services, education, and more.

The United Way Fall Resource Fair was a direct and impactful initiative from the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The CHIP set a strategic goal to “increase awareness of community resources” and foster greater connectivity between residents and available support services.

“The Fall Resource Fair was a fantastic opportunity for residents to see firsthand the scope of support and assistance available in our community,” said Walt Lewis, Knox County resource navigator.

“We are thrilled to have had such a strong turnout from both agencies and visitors alike.

“Events like this are key in ensuring that everyone in Knox County knows where to turn when they need help.”

Connecting residents with services

Lewis, who facilitated the event, is crucial in connecting residents with the services that best meet their needs.

Through initiatives like the Fall Resource Fair, United Way and its partners continue to strengthen the fabric of the community by making resources more accessible and fostering collaboration among local agencies.

The 2024 United Way annual campaign is underway, with nearly $200,000 raised toward a $1 million goal.

“Our fundraising efforts are crucial to supporting the agencies represented at this resource fair,” Lewis said. “With help from like-minded donors, we continue to strengthen Knox County’s community resources.”
