Cecil Hubbard, age 94, of Fredericktown, Ohio, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Morrow Manor Nursing Home in Chesterville, Ohio. He was born on November 4, 1929, in Berkshire, Ohio, to the late Ferd and Nannie (Thompson-Presley) Hubbard.
He grew up in a large family, his brother Earl and five sisters, Pauline Griffith, Beaulah Deboard, Betty Harris, Kathleen Sparks, and Margie Bowen.
In 1947, Cecil married the love of his life, Marjean Bollinger, and enjoyed many years together until she passed away in 1995. He was a long time Knox County resident who lived in Fredericktown for many years.
Cecil is survived by his sons, Gary (Trudi) Hubbard of Edison, Ohio; Larry (Kay) Hubbard of Cape Coral, Florida; a daughter, Sue (Neil) Abdon of Fredericktown, Ohio; his sister, Margie Bowen, of Galena, Ohio; and his loving companion, Reatha Brockerman of Fredericktown, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Cecil was an Army Veteran. He retired from PPG Industries in Mount Vernon. After retiring he worked various jobs, such as truck mechanic and flower delivery. In his younger years, he enjoyed building and racing stock cars on dirt tracks around the area, including a racetrack in Mount Vernon behind the radio station, as well as Hilltop Speedway in Holmes County. Cecil passed his love of racing to his sons and on to 4 generations of his family. The family would like to send a special “Thank You” to the staff at Morrow Manor in Chesterville, and Gentiva Hospice.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 11am to 12pm at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home; 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050 with a graveside service starting at 12:30 pm at East View Cemetery in Centerburg, Ohio.
