Letter to the Editor in purple lettering on envelope

As Americans, we share the moral value of fairness. Every citizen should have access to economic opportunities and a good education. Fairness, moreover, means that everyone is treated equally before the law.

Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans like Bernie Moreno who have enabled him demean fairness and the rule of law. Trump has clearly shown himself to be one of those “elites” who use their wealth to hire expensive lawyers with the goal of avoiding the even hand of justice.

Even so, he has now been convicted on 34 felony counts. Twice, grand juries have indicted him for attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Five separate grand juries (juries of ordinary citizens) have determined that he has likely committed multiple felonies.

For the first time in the history of our great nation, he used the presidency to incite an insurrection, trying to stop the peaceful transfer of power. He watched for hours without intervening, despite the pleas of those around him. We all saw this. Is this the character we want in our president?

If you believe that our country deserves better, you can show your patriotism in November by voting for candidates who demonstrate character and value fairness, including the rule of law.

Sherrod Brown has served Ohio and everyday working people for close to two decades. He knows how to get things done for veterans, for retirees, for people in the trades. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz also grew up with people who had to work for a living. It is time for fresh leadership, time to elect people who are politically moderate and who have demonstrated that they can work effectively with both Democrats and Republicans to solve problems.
