FREDERICKTOWN — Fredericktown Local Schools superintendent’s contract was extended until 2030 at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.
Supt. Gary Chapman’s most recent contract was to end in 2025. Chapman, hired in 2022, replaced interim superintendent Jim Peterson.
“Thank you to the board,” Chapman said. “It’s a privilege to not only serve our students but our community.”
Chapman’s salary is $132,000.
From 2005-2009, he was the principal of Fredericktown High School. That was before the new K-12 building was constructed.
Before coming to Fredericktown, Chapman was the superintendent at Jonathan Alder Local Schools in Plain City from 2011 to 2022. From, 2009-2011, Chapman was the Director of Teaching & Learning at Mount Vernon City Schools.
Chapman’s goals for the next five years is to continue the district’s standard for academic success and provide as many opportunities for students as possible.
During Chapman’s tenure, Fredericktown received a four-star rating from the statewide report card in 2023. Broken down by specific category:

The 2024 statewide report card releases Friday.
The district’s graduation rate was 99%.
Total attendance for the 2024-25 school year is 1,244 students, Chapman said, noting it is down 16 students from last school year. Chapman said the current rate will likely change.
