Fred Lee Lawson, age 79, of Mount Vernon went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at his home with his loving family at his side.

He was born on July 16, 1945, in Richlands, Virginia to the late Cecil and Margaret (Dye) Lawson. He was a 1965 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. Fred was employed and retired in 2009 from General Motors in Ontario with over 40 years of service. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #549. He enjoyed car restorations and owned a 1957 Chevy Convertible that he took to many Car Shows. Fred was known to be able to fix just about anything and would help his family and friends whenever asked. He also enjoyed gardening. But most of all, he loved the time he spent with his family and close friends.

He is survived by his wife, of over 58 years, Sandra (Smith) Lawson; his son John (Brenda Ginsler) Lawson; two grandchildren, Megan and Christine Lawson; three great-grandchildren, Layla Lawson, Scarlett DeMerr, Lance Lawson; his brothers, Curtis (Mavis) Lawson, Roger (Laura) Lawson; and his sister Shirley (Dan) Kelly.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother Tony (Gwen) Lawson; his nephew Tim Lawson; and his brother-in-law Jim Nelson.

In keeping with Fred’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will schedule a memorial service at a day and time to be announced.
