MOUNT VERNON, September 6, 2024 – On Friday, September 6, 2024, Mayor Matthew Starr appointed Samantha Ramsier Interim Auditor for the City of Mount Vernon, effective Saturday, Sept. 7.

On Monday, Aug. 26, Auditor Terry Scott announced at a meeting of the Mount Vernon City Council that he would retire on Sept. 6, after serving in the elected position for 30 years. That career made him the longest-serving Auditor in Mount Vernon history.

Ramsier was born and raised in Mount Vernon and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where she also minored in Entrepreneurship.

She owns and manages five tax offices, and provides payroll and bookkeeping for a variety of businesses in Mount Vernon. She is also a certified tax preparer and a member of the National Tax Preparers Association.

In addition, Ramsier is president of TouchPointe Family and Marriage Resources. She is married to Jesse Ramsier, a Patrol Sergeant for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Ramsier’s interim appointment will be for a period not to exceed 45 days, during which time the Knox County Republican Party’s Central Committee Members, representing precincts within the City of Mount Vernon, will appoint a long-term replacement for the City Auditor position.

The GOP Central Committee has a selection committee in place, chaired by Knox County Republican Party Chair Fred Dailey.
