MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man was indicted Monday on two counts of aggravated murder in connection with a double homicide that occurred at an apartment building on South Gay Street.
Cameron Ray Moore, 23, was arrested Aug. 15 by Mount Vernon Police Department detectives.
The indictment also states Moore committed aggravated burglary during the murders.
At approximately 10:02 p.m. Aug. 14, the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to an apartment building at 105 South Gay St., on a requested welfare check.
When officers entered the apartment, two adult victims — one male and one female — were located.
The release stated both individuals were deceased and there wasn’t anybody else in the residence. The building was secured as a crime scene.
The victim’s names will continue to be withheld until the family’s consent or other judicial proceedings are made public, according to Ohio Marsy’s Law.
There is currently an active arson investigation the same complex at The Terrace after a fire broke out on the second- to third-floor stairwell July 21.
