SPARTA — Fredericktown earned a see-saw non-conference win on Friday night at Highland with a 30-28 nailbiter.

Freddies’ QB Blake Sipes ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more, 4 yards and 22 yards, both to Gavin Toombs. Elijah Roush contributed an interception and added two TD runs of 19 and 5 yards.

Scots’ quarterback Kolton Stover threw for 192 yards and three scores, including a 60-yard toss to Kadyn Reichenbach, a 21-yarder to Samuel Hernandez-Marquez, and 15 yards to Branson Newsome. Stover also ran for 56 yards. Zach Church had a 40-yard pick-six for Highland.

The Freddies moved on top 12-7 through the first quarter. But the Scots rebounded to gain a 21-18 edge at the half.

Fredericktown retook the advantage at 24-21 heading to the final 12 minutes.

Highland earned a 7-6 final-quarter advantage, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

Last season, Highland and Fredericktown faced off on Aug. 18, 2023 at Fredericktown High School.
