George R. Daley, 93, of Mount Vernon, went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 16, 2024, after a brief illness.
George was born November 12, 1930, in Central City, Pennsylvania to the late Dewey and Luella (Kane) Daley. He later lived in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where he learned his trade as a plasterer. He was also a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Military Policeman in the Korean War.
He married Janet Bower of Mount Vernon on February 13, 1954, in Liberty, Indiana. They lived in Pennington, New Jersey and Florida before returning to Mount Vernon. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Temple.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Janet – who he called “Sweetie” – and four children, Ellen Daley, George Robert (Marissa) Daley Jr., Pamela (Wayne) Jones and Thomas (Tressa) Daley, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 20 at 1:00 in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. Pastor Kris Brandenburg will officiate.
