MOUNT VERNON Two people were found dead in an apartment at 105 South Gay St. Wednesday night.

At approximately 10:02 p.m., Mount Vernon Police Department responded to an apartment building, The Terrace, on a requested welfare check.

When the officers entered the apartment, two adult victims — one male and one female — were located, according to a Mount Vernon Police Department release.

The release stated both individuals were deceased and there wasn’t anybody else in the residence. The building was secured as a crime scene.

Knox County Prosecutor Chip McConville confirmed that it was a double homicide.

Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there’s no threat to the community, the release states.

As the investigation continues, further details of the incident will be released. The victim’s names will not be released due to Ohio’s Marsy’s Law.

There is currently an active arson investigation at The Terrace after a fire broke out on the second- to third-floor stairwell July 21.
