Rev. Dale E. Hilkert, age 94, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Knox Community Hospital. He was born on October 9, 1929, in Kelly Township in Union County, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Raymond L. and Helen M. (Baker) Hilkert.

Rev. Hilkert graduated from Milton, Pennsylvania High School in 1948. He was a 1953 graduate of the Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee and while he was there, Rev. Hilkert served for 2 years as the President of the Christian Workers Association and was also the Senior Class President. Following his graduation from Trevecca, Rev. Hilkert started his ministry in Bangor, Pennsylvania. While he was in Pennsylvania, he became an ordained minister in the Church in 1958. Rev. Hilkert served as the District Youth President in Philadelphia. He served a few more churches in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and in 1969, Rev. Hilkert moved to Ohio and again served several churches in Ohio. In 1994 Rev. Hilkert retired from active ministry while he was serving the First Church of the Nazarene in Cleveland, Ohio. Rev. Hilkert, during his 40 years of active ministry, served on several District Boards and Committees with the Nazarene Church.

In his spare time, Rev. Hilkert enjoyed gardening, hunting, and especially spending time with his family.

Rev. Hilkert is survived by his devoted wife, of 73 years, Miriam Ruth (Moore) Hilkert; children, David E. (Katherine) Hilkert of LaPlata, Maryland, Carol R. (Michael) Rednour of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and John S. (Amanda) Hilkert of Tallmadge, Ohio; seven grandsons, and one granddaughter; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry (Gladys) Hilkert of Clearwater, Florida, William Hilkert of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Paul (Louise) Hilkert of Milton, Pennsylvania, Lew (Gayle) Hilkert of West Unity, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Hilkert was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Hilkert, Warren Hilkert; and his sister Doris Seville.

The family will receive friends from 11am – 1pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 807 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon. Funeral services will follow beginning at 1pm with Pastor Joe Proudfoot officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
