Helen May (Deskins) Ball, of Centerburg, went home be with her Lord on August 4, 2024.
Helen was born January 28, 1937, at Bartley, WV, the youngest daughter of the late William Van and Betty N. (Addair) Deskins, Prater. Helen lived most of her life in the Centerburg area after moving there in the early 1950’s. Helen was a 1956 graduate of Centerburg High School, and attended Morris Harvey College, now the University of Charleston, in Charleston WV.
She worked at the Rudin’s Department Store in Mount Vernon OH, and for the Nationwide Insurance Company in Columbus. Helen was a member of the Centerburg Christian Church where she served her Lord for over fifty years, serving as a Deaconess, Financial Secretary, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and a leader of Ladies Bible Studies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, Edward, Homer, George, William Van Jr., Denver, Mackey, and Eugene, as well as three sisters, Cleo (Deskins Mahoney, Cledith (Deskins) Stewart and Freda (Deskins) Jennings. Helen is survived by her husband, Elmer Ball, two of her twelve siblings, brothers, William A. (Ellie) Deskins, of Westerville, OH; and Irvin Deskins, of Mt. Vernon, OH. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, Great nieces and nephews along with several great-great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Friday, August 9th at the Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg, OH, where she will be interred along alongside other members of her family. Services were provided by Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home (morelandfuneralhome.com) in Centerburg.
