MOUNT VERNON — Pigs, cows, horses and chickens were on display at the Limitless Livestock show created by Ansley Daubenmier.
Daubenmier, an upcoming Mount Vernon High School senior, has been showing animals at the Knox County Fair for over a decade. She serves as president of Mount Vernon’s FFA chapter and the Smoking and Spurs 4-H club.
Her passion for the fair inspired Daubenmier to host her own show for developmentally disabled fairgoers. Fair life and culture are deeply rooted in her family.
Last year, in order to bring her idea to life, Daubenmier approached the senior fair board and sought their approval, which was quickly granted. The Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities sponsored the event and provided young exhibitors.
Fair exhibitors lent their animals for the show, Daubenmier explained. Eight exhibitors participated this year — two more than last year.
Medals and stuffed animals were gifted to exhibitors at the show’s end.
For animals, cows, sheep, horses and chickens were added this year, Daubenmier said.
