James E. Daxon, 84, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 under the care of North Central Ohio Hospice at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on January 10, 1940 in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late Bernard P. and Grace C. (Olmsted) Daxon.
James graduated in 1958 from Bellmont High School in Dayton and earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Dayton. He retired from Butt Construction Company, Dayton in 2000. James was a member of Covenant Church in Mount Vernon and was very involved with Gideons International in Dayton and Mount Vernon. He was a Master woodworker and many of his beautiful pieces included, making bookmark crosses that were given to Marion Hospice and North Central Ohio Hospice, many toy boxes, and fixing and repairing many fixtures for many people.
James is survived by his children Jennifer Daxon and Jeffrey Daxon of Mapleton, Georgia; stepson, Brian (Amy) Ferguson of Mount Vernon; step grandson, Chase (Chloe Mae) Ferguson of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Kathryn Griffin of Hedgesville, WV.
The family will have a celebration of life service at a later date.
