MONROE TOWNSHIP — The Monroe Township recycling dump-off site is being removed after several illegal dumping and contamination complaints, according to county officials.
Knox County Recycling & Litter Prevention program manager Matt Baugher, who runs the dump-off-sites, made the decision Tuesday.
“Consider yourself among the first to know, the Monroe bins on Route (Ohio) 3 will be looking for a new home,” Baugher wrote in a Facebook post.
“After constant illegal dumping, overflow and lack of respect, the Monroe Trustees have requested something changes.
Several attempts to reach Monroe Township trustees have been unsuccessful.
“I would like to thank them for all their patience over the years. There is not a removal date yet, but we are in the process of moving them and trying again.”
Since the pandemic, Baugher said, illegal dumping has increased at the 17330 Allen Road site, to the point this location is one of the top offenders in Knox County.
A new location hasn’t been chosen, Baugher said.
Baugher said he’d like the new site to be on public property with pavement.
“(It) also has to be safe for residents to be safe to get in and out of,” Baugher said.
Residents in the city are entitled to free curbside removal with any certified trash hauler, Baugher added.
