Eugene Spurling Baxter, age 92, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his residence. He was born on August 4, 1931, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late Charles and Shirley (Spurling) Baxter.
Gene was a general contractor and worked in Mount Vernon. He was a Veteran of the Navy and worked with the Seabees contracting, building airfields and barracks. Gene enjoyed flying planes and loved his Navion. He married Lulu (Lozier) on July 5, 1951, and they had four children together.
Gene is survived by his children, Debbie Pickering of Dublin, OH, Matthew (Debbie) Baxter of Seattle, WA, Karl Baxter of Pagosa Springs, CO, Lisa (Brian) Daily of Tampa, FL; 8 grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Weller of Fredericktown.
Along with his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Lulu Jane Baxter, brother-in-law, Carmen Weller.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
