MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival (MVMAF) welcomes the return of the annual Flower Show, presented by the Knox County Garden Clubs and
organized by chairwomen Jo Ann Graham and Audrey Spearman.

The show is hosted by The Living Center, 201 North Main Street in Mount Vernon, Ohio, Aug. 9 to 11.

Graham has been organizing the flower show with Spearman for more than 10 years, and they both work tremendously hard with all the participants to ensure that the event is a success.

“I like seeing all the new artistic creative designs,” Graham said.

The theme of this year’s flower show is ‘America the Beautiful’ and there are no
experience requirements to enter.

The flower show has two different categories: artistic and horticulture. On the opening
day of the show, Friday, Aug. 9, judge Vicky Puster, member of the Ohio Association of
Garden Clubs, will evaluate the entries.

“Make sure you read the rules and just have fun,” Puster said.

The public will also have the opportunity to vote on their favorite flower piece and declare a People’s Choice winner.

Graham and Spearman will run two workshops at the Living Center for those entering the contest, where they go over the rules and expectations for contestants.

The first workshop, on Wednesday, July 10, starts at 1 p.m. and will be held for all those entering the artistic flower category.

Those entering the horticulture category will have the opportunity to attend a second
workshop on Wednesday, July 31, starting at 1 p.m.

The cutoff date for all those who wish to enter the show is Friday, Aug. 9 from 8 to 11 a.m. and no entries will be accepted after 11 a.m.

The Festival Flower Show will be open to the public for viewing on Friday, Aug. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, the show will be from Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Sunday, Aug 11, viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Again, judging day will be on Friday, Aug. 9 from to 5 p.m.

Everyone that places first, second or third will receive a ribbon and rosettes. The winner for Best of Show will also receive a money prize.

All those organizing the event want to ensure that everyone entering is confident and
prepared for the show. Exhibiters will gather on Sunday at 4 p.m. for the judge to place
ribbons on the winners.
