Ethel M. Bower, 93, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at The Ohio Eastern Star Home.

She was born on Friday, November 7, 1930, in Fredericktown to the late Willard and Rachel (Seymour) Shipley.

Ethel was a member of the Gambier Epworth Methodist Church. Where she was a Sunday School teacher and served as a former treasurer for 42 years. Ethel was a member of the Gambier Pythian Sisters for over 25 years.

She and her late husband owned Blaine Bower Garage Inc. Ethel was the secretary and treasurer for the business. She was also a poll worker for over 40 years. Her hobbies included sewing, car upholstery embroidery, reading, camping, lighthouse collecting, and spending time with her family.

Ethel is survived by her sons, Ralph (Patty) Bower, Wayne Bower, Neil (Linda) Bower; sisters, Charlotte Shipley, Eleanor Payne; brothers, Darwin Shipley, Lawrence (Gladys) Shipley, grandchildren, Chris (Kay) Bower, Daniel (Paula) Bower, Jennifer (Raymond) Vickers, Casey Bower; 7 great-grandchildren, 5 great great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Blaine Bower in 2006, sister, Dora McWilliams, brother, Wendell Shipley, daughter-in-law, Joyce Armstrong-Bower, and sister-in-law, Janice Shipley

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd. in Mount Vernon. Funeral service will be Thursday, July 11, 2024 – 11:00 AM at Gambier Epworth Methodist Church, 200 E. Wiggin Street. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
