Charles L. “Chuck” McKenzie, age 83, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
He was born on January 16, 1941, in Mount Vernon and was the son to the late Charles L. and Minnie (Harding) McKenzie Sr. Chuck was a realtor for many years in Columbus, Ohio, and moved back to Mt Vernon, his hometown, in 2015. He had great memories of growing up on Howard and Gambier Streets in the 1950’s.
Following the death of his son, Luke, he rallied back and found great joy in volunteer coaching middle school boys and girls teams at Worthington Christian School and North Columbus Athletic Association.
He loved old cars, especially Packard’s, and was never without a nice fountain pen.
His hearty laugh was known by all and was a true homebody, living a simple life, loving his Dachshund friends, Daisy and Stretch (and everyone else’s too!). He was an avid follower of current and political events, and above all, he loved his Lord & Savior.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jean L. (Lamb) McKenzie; a niece, Valerie (Adam) Lamb-Steece, sister-in-law, Patty Lamb, great niece, Georgia Pulvermacher, great nephew, Clark (Madison) Steece, and a brother-in-law, Barry (Jackie) Bowden.
He was preceded in death by a son, Luke Aaron McKenzie, sister, Susan Bowden, and a close friend, Dick Fowler.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 – 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 303 S. Edgewood Drive with Pastor Bill Barton officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
