MOUNT VERNON – Columbia Gas has announced plans to install 1,500 feet of new plastic pipe serving about 20 customers on the north side of Mount Vernon, along Nuce Road and Marma Drive.
This project will clear a conflict with existing gas infrastructure ahead of the city’s Dan Emmett Neighborhood Revitalization Project.
Specifically, the contractor, Global Energy Partners, will lay pipe along the entirety of Nuce Road from Mansfield Avenue east to just short of Decatur Drive and north along Marma Drive from Nuce to just short of Northgate Drive.
Preconstruction work has already begun. Residents in the affected area may notice markers and flags appearing in yards. These are being used to mark the locations of underground facilities, and Columbia Gas asks that residents leave them in place until the work is completed.
The new mainline will be installed this week. Once it is in and put into service, crews will follow up with service line replacements for individual homes. These will take two to four hours per property and include a brief service disconnection.
Indoor meters will also be relocated outside. Global Energy Partners will contact each property owner to schedule an appointment for the shutoff, relight, and, if necessary, meter relocation.
Crews will temporarily restore all property to ensure safety and accessibility and follow up with permanent grade restoration as the project nears completion. Some permanent restoration will occur in conjunction with the Dan Emmett Neighborhood Revitalization Project.
Residents can expect some traffic congestion in the work zones, but flaggers will be on hand to direct motorists safely through the areas.
