The most reliable way to predict the future is to create it.
Abraham Lincoln
MOUNT VERNON — Bernie Moreno’s message at the Knox County Republican Lincoln-Reagan dinner was clear. The entirety of control for the U.S. Senate runs through Ohio.
History, Moreno said, will say that Ohio helped save this country or failed to do so.
Ohio Republican U.S. Senate candidate Moreno was the keynote speaker for Knox County’s GOP Lincoln-Reagan Dinner on Saturday.
Moreno is challenging Democrat incumbent Sherrod Brown, of Mansfierld, for one of Ohio’s two U.S. Senate seats this November.
The Republican dinner took place at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Foster Hall with VIP guests spending an hour with Moreno before the dinner.
During his keynote speech, Moreno painted a bleak reality for Republicans if Brown and President Joe Biden are re-elected.
“Basically, let me summarize it this way,” Moreno said. “Biden gets re-elected. Sherrod Brown gets re-elected. The ability for Republicans to win another national race is gone.
“It’s just over.”
Though, Moreno said don’t give up because if he’s elected — Republicans will control the Senate and will keep the House of Representatives.
‘We get to work’
Then, Moreno said, on Jan. 25 — we get to work.
“What does this mean? What is our agenda?” Moreno metaphorically asked.
“Number one: immigration.”
The only people that will enter the United States are people we invited to come to the United States, Moreno said, noting if you entered the country illegally, you’ll be asked to leave. And if you don’t — we will force you out.
On Day Two, Moreno said America will have a renaissance in energy “like we’ve never seen.”
“We will make Saudi Arabia look like they’ve got nothing on the United States of America when it comes to energy,” Moreno said. “And in doing so we’ll help the climate because America does energy cleaner, safer and better than any other nation on Earth.”
Day Three — decentralize the federal government.
“The agencies we should never have had and don’t need like the Department of Education is gone.”
Next, President Donald Trump is traveling the world making peace in Ukraine and the Middle East, Moreno said.
“Our allies have got to trust us and our enemies have got to fear us like they did when President Trump was in office,” Moreno said. “That strength, that American strength comes from a commander-in-chief who actually will keep his word.”
Also, Moreno says “We have to make things here in America,” suggesting we should subsidize cars made in America.
Bring back law and order
People aren’t joining their respective police forces today due to demoralization, Moreno said.
He cited Columbus as an example, saying that police department is down 290 officers from what it should have.
“And the remaining ones can’t do their jobs,” Moreno said. “They arrest the same person over and over and over again to the point where they ask themselves ‘Why am I even doing this?'”
If prosecutors don’t punish criminals, “we’re going to take away their federal funding,” Moreno said.
Also, he wants to help incentivize police officers to join the force. Moreno said there should be a 5% maximum income tax range for officers.
Moreover, Moreno spoke about the large amounts of money being spent on this U.S. Senate campaign, compared to the presidential election.
“There’s more money that’s already been reserved for TV commercials in Ohio for the U.S. Senate race than for the presidential race in every state in America combined,” Moreno said. “You will not be able to watch Jeopardy after Labor Day.”
