Joan Hayden Butta, 89, died peacefully on May 22. Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Philip Joseph Butta, Sr. and her son James Gerard Butta and is survived by her children Salvatore Butta, Philip Butta, Jr., Francine Butta and Karen Dewalt and her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Joan has been a long-time resident of Mount Vernon, Ohio where she was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She spent many years as a volunteer at Knox Community Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, please remember Joan by supporting your local library as she was avid reader and a frequent visitor to the Gambier Public Library.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the Celebrant. Joan will be laid to rest beside her husband, Philip in Oak Grove Cemetery, Gambier.
