Lyndsey Krownapple has strong ties to Knox County; both her parents were born and raised here, as was she. Similarly, the law firm where she works, Critchfield, Critchfield, & Johnston (Critchfield), has a long history in North Central and Northeast Ohio. As long as over 150+ years.
Critchfield is a full-service law firm with over 40 attorneys who practice across a number of legal specialties, promising to serve as their clients’ trusted advisors. Krownapple practices employment law, general litigation, and estate planning.
She began her career at Critchfield while still in law school, though, under the mentorship of attorneys Kimberly Hall and Zachary Dimarco. Critchfield offers a law clerk program where law students can work throughout the summer. Aside from her interest in law, Krownapple is the third generation of women in her family to be involved in The Rotary Club, her grandmother and mother before her.
“You’ll do legal research and draft legal documents, and you get to tell your mentors what areas you think you might be interested in. You’re assigned a mentor,” Krownapple said.
Initially, Krownapple was set on only doing transactional work, meaning she wouldn’t go into the courtroom. Through her mentorship and watching the attorneys at work, she realized she liked the litigation side of the job, too. As new cases poured in, each with their own intricate details and facts, Krownapple found another route.
“Before you start working in the firm, you don’t realize all these areas of law are so vast. I think I realized the change when I saw Kim working; she’s a superstar. I looked up to her,”
“There’s a lot of attorneys here with a lot of experience in different areas. We’re not a big Columbus law firm, but we’re big enough. And we have the expertise to provide that type of sophisticated work,” Krownapple said.
Businesses often call on Krownapple for her employment law and litigation focus. She helps employers with wrongful termination claims, breach of contract, workers’ compensation, and provides guidance on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) enforcement and compliance issues.
Critchfield also offers comprehensive human resources (HR) counseling to many local employers.
“For example, if you want someone to look at your employee handbook, or if you have some type of employee discipline issue, or you don’t know if you can fire somebody without any legal issues…we have basic HR advising, we do a lot of that for local businesses,” Krownapple said.
From HR advising to OSHA, Critchfield takes pride in their attorneys and work, promising to “apply our deep experience to help set priorities, assess the alternatives, and reach best-case outcomes.”
