Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Yough, age 86, of Centerburg, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at The Inn at Walnut Trail in Sunbury. She was born on June 19, 1937, in Utica, Ohio, the daughter of Cletus and Marguerite (Londot) Smith. Early on, Betty worked for the Miller Company in Mount Vernon and, while her children were young, gained quite a reputation for baking cakes. Betty proudly served as postmaster in Mount Liberty for several years.

Betty was an active member of the Brandon Baptist Church, where she enjoyed fellowship with so many friends. Upon their retirement, she and her late husband, Bill, were also members of the West Harbor Club on Catawba Island, where they spent many days fishing for Lake Erie Perch, striving to catch their limit each day. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking, bird watching, and caring for her vegetable and flower gardens.

Betty took great pleasure in always helping others, whether walking to raise money for TouchPointe or sending off a get-well, anniversary, or birthday card; she was passionate about lifting the spirits of everyone around her. Most important to Betty was the quality time she spent with her family. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she looked forward to attending the activities of her family and extended family. For sporting events, reunions, concerts, or anything else the family was active with, Betty always had the calendar marked and was eager to support those she loved.

Betty is survived by her children, Karen (Thom) Fowler of Sparta and Chuck (Laura) Yough of Cypress, Texas; three grandchildren, Dr. Massey Fowler, Josh Yough, and Lynden Yough; her brother, Robert (Mary Lou) Smith of Heath and her sister, Tess Armbrust of Newark.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Kenneth “Bill” Yough (2023), and her sister, Julia Moore.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 4 to 6 pm at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, where a Celebration of Life service will begin at 6 pm. Pastor Thom Fowler and Pastor Marvin Haught will be officiating. A graveside service will be held on Friday beginning at 11 am in Mount Liberty Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be made to Capital City Hospice, TouchPointe of Mount Vernon, or the Brandon Baptist Church.
