MOUNT VERNON – A temporary stop sign has been placed at the intersection of Commerce Drive and Newark Road after a one-vehicle crash on Monday.

A motorist struck a utility pole and cabinet that operates the traffic light, Mount Vernon Safety Service Director Tanner Salyers said.

The cabinet isn’t expected to be replaced for another eight to 12 months due to supply shortages, Salyers said.

“People need to know if the traffic lights are out, treat it as a three-way stop,” Salyers said.

Salyers said he hopes to have a flashing light at the intersection by Tuesday.
