MOUNT VERNON — As summer approaches, Opportunity Knox Employment Center has announced the launch of its highly anticipated Summer Youth Employment Program.

Designed to empower and equip in-school youth aged 14-18 with valuable skills and experiences, this program is set to commence on June 10 and will run until July 19.

With a focus on providing meaningful employment opportunities, participants will earn a competitive wage of $13 per hour while gaining hands-on experience in various industries.

Paired with dedicated job coaches throughout the program, participants will receive guidance and support to maximize their learning and growth potential.

The inaugural week of the program will kick off with an engaging “boot camp” where participants will undergo comprehensive training in job safety, team building, job readiness, and soft skills development.

Moreover, participants will have the opportunity to attain essential certifications including First Aid and CPR, as well as ServSafe certification, enhancing their employability and readiness for the workforce.

Following boot camp, participants will be assigned to a diverse range of worksites, including community projects aimed at giving back to the Knox County community.

Building on the success of last year’s initiatives, this year’s program will expand its scope to include additional worksite experiences.

The program will culminate in an enriching final week featuring industry tours, providing participants with insights into various career pathways across different industries.

This immersive experience aims to broaden participants’; horizons and inspire them to explore diverse career options.

“We are excited to partner with the Ariel Foundation, which has enabled us to expand the reach and impact of our Summer Youth Employment Program,” said Brandy Booth, Workforce Administrator at Opportunity Knox Employment Center.

“Our goal is to build on the success of last year’s program. It was incredibly fulfilling to witness the growth and development of the participants.

“Seeing their self-confidence blossom as they worked together in teams and contributed to projects that benefited our community was truly rewarding.

“It was inspiring to observe the camaraderie among the participants, cheering each other on as they experienced small successes along the way.

“We are eager to continue fostering such positive experiences and opportunities for the youth of Knox County.”

Spaces in the program are limited, and interested youth are encouraged to submit their applications promptly. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, and application packets can be obtained from the Opportunity Knox Employment Center or by visiting OMJKnox.com.

Upon application, youth and their parents will be scheduled for an enrollment appointment.
