George Edward “Ed” Hall, 89, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

He was born on November 24, 1934, in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania to the late Herbert C. and Mary E. (Stock) Hall.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Helen “Arlene” Hall, his four sons, Dave (Karin) Hall, Ron (Jan) Hall, Jim (Karen) Hall, Steve (Pam) Hall; eight grandchildren, Mark (Sarah) Hall, Karla (Evan) Kile, Emma (Kyle) Dauer, Claire (Ben) Atkinson, Steve (Mary) Hall, Melissa (Sean Stein) Hall, Brendan Hall, Meghan (Sangyeop Lee) Hall; and three great-grandchildren; Grant Hall, and Hannah and Lainey Dauer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Herbert C. Hall Jr., and a sister, Hilda Marie Hadden.

Upon graduation from high school Ed attended Penn State University pursing an engineering degree and enrolling in the Air Force ROTC program. In 1956 Ed married his high school sweetheart, Arlene and they began their long life together. After graduating from Penn State in 1957, Ed served in the Air Force for four years as a navigator. He was discharged in 1960 after achieving the rank of Captain.

Upon leaving the Air Force, Ed began working for the Ingersoll Rand Corp. in Painted Post, New York as a Chief Tool Designer and General Plant Foreman. In late 1965 he began a long and distinguished career with Cooper Bessemer; later known as Cooper Energy Services. His work with Copper Bessemer started at the Grove City, Pennsylvania plant where he eventually arose to the position of General Factory Superintendent. In 1974 he was transferred to the Cooper Bessemer operation in Stratford, Ontario, Canada as the Plant Manager. Ed’s final position with Cooper Energy Services led him to Mt. Vernon, Ohio in 1978 where he was the Director of Manufacturing for 18 years. He retired from Cooper Energy Services in 1996.

During Ed’s many retirement years he enjoyed travelling with his wife Arlene to many destinations throughout the United States as well as Hawaii, Canada and Great Britain. Beginning in 1997 Ed and Arlene spent their winters in Destin, Florida. During the summer months in Mt. Vernon, he was an avid golfer enjoying many outings with old friends from work.

Most of all Ed cherished the time spent with the family and grandkids. There were many large family gatherings at the home in Mt. Vernon during the various holidays.
Ed was the loving and caring patriarch of the family and will most certainly be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd. in Mount Vernon. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm and burial will be in Mound View Cemetery.
