Cletus Gene Wonders, age 73, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Knox Community Hospital surrounded by family and close friends.
He was born on September 14, 1950, in Columbus OH to Cletus Goland Wonders and Wilma (Ladd) Wonders. Cletus was raised on the family farm he loved and called home near Croton, Ohio. He graduated from Northridge High School, Class of 1968.
Cletus was a Union Sheet Metal Worker and Joint Apprenticeship Training Coordinator for Local Union #24.
Cletus was a Methodist by faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cletus Goland Wonders, Wilma (Ladd) Wonders Ford, siblings Kenneth Wonders, Dianna Wonders Thomson, Carl Wonders and Phyllis Wonders.
He is survived by sons Jason Wonders (Carrie Fisher), Mansfield, OH, Josh Wonders, AZ, and Jeremy Wonders, Delaware, OH; grandchildren Jason Wonders Jr, Alex (Mikah) Wonders, Lindsey Wonders and Natalie Wonders; great grandchildren Skylee Wonders, Adylie Wonders and Wilder Wonders; brother Wayne (Susan) Wonders, Johnstown, OH, and sister Darlene Wonders, Newark, OH; two best friends, Don Comis, Howard, OH and Don Stiltner, Wheelersburg, OH; and mother of his children, Joy (Smith) Wonders, Mt Vernon OH, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by two canine companions Max and Lucian.
Cletus was a dreamer, and never gave up on a machine. “All it needs” was frequently in his vocabulary.
He was a friend to many and never met a stranger. He was always up to a good debate about politics, religion, etc. Whether you wanted it or not, you were going to hear his opinion. He could be stubborn, and downright rude. But when it came down to it he would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He had a generous and giving spirit.
Cletus drove us all crazy but that was part of his charm. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at the Apple Valley Lake Clubhouse (3725 Valley Drive, Howard, Ohio 43028) with Mr. Don Stiltner officiating.
