MOUNT VERNON — Connie Durbin defeated Mount Vernon Councilwoman Amber Keener 69 percent to 31 percent in the Republican primary race for Knox County treasurer.
Durbin is currently the chief deputy treasurer. Treasurer Shelley Coon did not run for re-election.
Durbin led throughout the evening.
“I’m just excited,” Durbin said on seeing the final results.
Noting that she will not take office until Sept. 1, 2025, Durbin said, “That gives me an opportunity to learn even more. Shelley and I can work together to see what we need for the office or any changes we want to do.”
Durbin said it was a long campaign.
“I’ve been visiting a lot of townships, putting a face to the name and telling people what we do,” she said. “I want to thank my family and friends for all their support.”
Keener thanked her supporters, too.
“As with any race I have been involved with in the past, I will continue working for the best of Knox County,” Keener said.
“I want to say thank you to my family, who has been really encouraging, and to those who reached out with words of support.”
No Democrat filed to run in the primary.
The deadline for independent candidates to file for the Nov. 5 General Election was March 18 at 4 p.m.
No candidates filed, which means Durbin will be unopposed in November for Knox County treasurer.
Results are unofficial until certified.
