MOUNT VERNON — The March 19 Primary Election is rapidly approaching, and the Republican side of the ballot has several contested county races.
Knox Pages will host a “Meet the Candidates” Q&A on Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Woodward Opera House. Residents will have a chance to learn how the candidates plan to address the issues Knox County faces.
Griffin Insurance is sponsoring the free event. An RSVP is appreciated.
Knox Pages will do Facebook Live from the event.
Two county commissioner seats are among the county races in play. Four candidates — Scott Zimmerman, Jeffrey Harmer, Jennifer Snow, and Barry Lester — are running for the seat that will open with Teresa Bemiller’s retirement. That term starts Jan. 2, 2025.
Bob Phillips and Drenda Keesee are challenging incumbent Commissioner Thom Collier for the term starting Jan. 3, 2025.
Capt. William Shaffer, Police Chief Dan Weckesser, and Deputy Wayne Noggle are on the ballot for Knox County Sheriff.
Deputy Treasurer Connie Durbin and Mount Vernon Councilwoman Amber Keener are running to replace the retiring Shelley Coon as Knox County Treasurer.
To inform citizens about the candidates’ views, Knox Pages asked them to complete a questionnaire. Their responses are found here: Knox County treasurer, Knox County sheriff, commissioner term Jan. 2, 2025, and commissioner term Jan. 3, 2025.
