MOUNT VERNON — Lexington withstood its most serious challenge of the season in the Ohio Cardinal Conference on Friday night at Mount Vernon High School.

Sophomore Brayden Fogle scored a team-high 18 points and Gavin Husty added 17 to help the Minutemen survive in a 61-58 decision over the Yellow Jackets.

Sophomore Seven Allen posted 10 points and seven assists, while Elijah Hudson had eight points. Joe Caudill scored six points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Coach Scott Hamilton’s squad earned a decisive bulge on the glass, outrebounding Mount Vernon by a whopping 39-15 gap. This marked the 200th victory for Hamilton.

The Minutemen are now 20-1, and completed a 14-0 clean sweep through the OCC. Lex will host state-ranked Ottawa-Glandorf, led by Ohio State signee Colin White, on Saturday night.

Jack Marhefka notched 16 points and Isaiah Columber contributed 15 for Mount Vernon. Quentin Rowland accounted for 11 points.

The contest was close throughout as Lexington edged in front 16-15 through the first quarter and owned a 31-27 halftime margin. The Minutemen took a 49-41 advantage to the final eight minutes.

Mount Vernon outscored Lex 17-12 in the fourth period, but the rally fell just short.

The Yellow Jackets forced Lexington into 14 turnovers, while committing only seven of their own.

Mount Vernon slips to 10-11 overall, and 7-7 in its final OCC campaign. The Yellow Jackets finish the regular season on Tuesday night by hosting future Licking County League lodge brother Northridge.
