MOUNT VERNON — Three of Knox County’s five girls basketball teams earned the right to host opening-round games during Sunday’s state-wide tournament draw.
Centerburg, Danville and Fredericktown will open postseason play on their home floors. Meanwhile, Mount Vernon and East Knox will hit the road for sectional semifinals.
Division I
Mount Vernon earned the No. 40 seed among the 48 Division I Central District schools. The Yellow Jackets (6-13) will visit No. 12 Westerville South (13-6) for a sectional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Feb 21.
Division III
Centerburg earned the No. 5 seed and a first-round bye. The Trojans (14-3) will host either No. 11 Worthington Christian or No. 18 Columbus Academy in a sectional final at 7 p.m. Feb. 23. Columbus Academy (7-11) visits Worthington Christian (10-9) at 7 p.m. Feb. 20.
Fredericktown (10-8) picked up the No. 12 seed among the 27 Division III teams in the Central District. The Freddies will entertain No. 13 Columbus Tree of Life Christian (12-6) in a sectional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Feb. 20.
No. 25 East Knox (5-15) will take on top-seeded Mechanicsburg (18-1) in a sectional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at Mechanicsburg.
Division IV
Danville earned the No. 5 seed in the 16-team Division IV central district field. The Blue Devils (15-6) will host No. 14 Pataskala Liberty Christian at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 in a sectional semifinal game.
Loudonville (16-1) earned the top overall seed in the Northeast District and will open Division IV sectional play at home against No. 37 Youngstown Valley Christian at 7 p.m. Feb. 21.
The Northeast District seeds every school and then schools are divided among three district tournament host sites. Loudonville was the No. 1 seed among the 38 Division IV schools in the northeastern part of the state.
