Mary Ann Perry, age 82, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Country Club Rehabilitation Campus. She was born on June 4, 1941, in Mansfield, Ohio, the daughter of George Maurice Goss and Helen (Garber) Black. Mary was a 1959 graduate of Bellville High School. She previously worked at the Miller Company in Utica, Harts department store and Selective Med of Mount Vernon.

Mary always had a smile and a “Hello” for everyone she met. She enjoyed reading, completing word finds, and taking drives through the country to view nature and its beauty. Her favorite wildlife views were deer, eagles, and red tail hawk. Mary also enjoyed cooking and specialized in comfort foods like chicken and noodles, potato soup and homemade pizza.

Mary was a loving mother that taught her children and grandchildren a great work ethic. She could be strong willed or “bull headed,” but she loved her family fiercely and made sure they knew it, as every greeting or goodbye was followed with a hug, kiss and I love you. She possessed her own style of “social networking” with her neighbors that developed into sincere friendships over the years.

She is survived by her children, Roger (Maurine) Perry of Mount Vernon and Beckie (Jim) Swetlic of Mount Vernon, five grandchildren, Rich Perry, Candie (Rick) Wells, Will (Angie) Perry, Dylan Swetlic, and Summer Swetlic, four great grandchildren, Josh Perry, Damien McCloud, Aubrey Wells, Jackson Zitron, and special friend Linda Vance.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Perry (2022), stepfather, Wallace “Buck” Black, siblings, George Goss, Roger Goss, Lawrence Goss, Norma Jean Claypool, Virginia “Ginny” Burson, Meriam Cummings and her canine companion Winston.

The family will observe a private service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Mary Ann Perry.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Tunnel to Towers or the Knox County Animal Shelter.
