We are sad to announce the passing of Louise Kerr Hare. She died at age 90 on December 12, 2023. Louise passed away surrounded by her loved ones after a battle with cancer. Louise is survived by her children; Bill (Dawne) Price, Bob Boyd, and Betsy (Jim) Edwards, three grandchildren; Noah Boyd, Eleanor Boyd and Madison Edwards, a sister, Marjorie K. Moore, her four children, and five grandchildren, and extended family.
Louise was preceded in death by her husbands, William K. Price, Jr., C. Richard Boyd, and Richard J. Hare.
Born Bette Louise Kerr to the late Robert Black Kerr and Betty Severns Kerr, Louise was, except for a few short years, a lifelong resident of Knox County. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1951 and went on to obtain her B.S. in Business from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, resulting in friendships that she endured for years.
After college, Louise worked briefly in New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as Salinas and Berkley, California. She returned to Mount Vernon in 1961 and worked in the Knox County Clerk of Courts office, then as a legal secretary for a law office in Fredericktown. She also taught Business Office Education at Fredericktown High School for one year. Whether in her administrative role or in social settings, Louise was known by many to have a contagious smile that could light up any room.
Louise enjoyed visiting family and old friends, and travel was always part of the adventure. Her trips primarily consisted of visiting Virginia Beach or her winter home in New Port Richey, Florida for more than 30 years. Being of a warm and caring nature these excursions often resulted in the foundation of new friendships. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, and her membership to the book club and garden club. She had an appreciation for many of nature’s creatures, with a special affinity for her dogs and the birds that would come to her windowsill. During the past year, Louise thoroughly enjoyed befriending many of her fellow residents at The Verena at Hilliard. She was loved by so many and will be thoroughly missed.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, December 15, 2023, in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Louise Kerr Hare.
