DANVILLE: Carol Ann Jones Orchard passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, in her home at the age of 85.

Carol was born on November 5, 1938, to parents Walter & Pearl (Ermer) Jones in Bedford, Ohio. She graduated from Bedford High school in 1956. Carol continued her education graduating from Mathers College, Western Reserve University with a Masters Degree in Education, and from Kent State University with a Masters Degree in Library Science.
Carol married the love of her life, James Sterling Orchard on September 14, 1961 in Bedford, Ohio, and together they raised three children: Steven (Tonya) Orchard, Kathleen (James) Price, Alice (Michael) Glaser.

Carol’s professional career began as a Junior High teacher at Bedford City Schools. After the family relocated to rural Knox County, Ohio in 1972, she resumed her professional career as a high school English teacher, then Librarian at Danville High School.

Carol deeply loved her family and was an excellent cook, making legendary Christmas pizza in December and strawberry shortcake in the spring. She loved animals and took in all strays. She was wise, kind, calm, a deep thinker, and problem solver. All of which helped her to excel in her career as a teacher, librarian, grant writer for Danville High School, faculty advisor for an award-winning high school newspaper, and drama coach. Carol was instrumental in establishing free Knoxnet Internet to Knox County residents, and Knox County school systems.

Carol is a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Loudonville, Ohio.

Carol is survived by her husband of 62 years, James, and their children: Steven, Kathleen, Alice, as well as 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Misty.
A graveside service in Carol’s memory will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the Loudonville Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
