Michael K. “Mike” Murphy, age 81, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

He was born on May 3, 1942, in North Vienna, Ohio to the late Glen and Betty (Knight) Murphy. Mike was a teacher at Newark City Schools from which he retired after many years of service. He was a member of the Presidents Club and Buckeye Club at The Ohio State University. He was also a member of the OSU Alumni Club of Knox County. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and wintering in Florida. While in Florida, he enjoyed attending all of the Cleveland Guardians spring training games where his wife was an usher. But most of all Mike loved the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife Frances M (McMahon) Murphy; his daughter Megan (Roger) Niles; his sons, Jeff (Donna) Murphy, Brad Murphy; nine grandchildren, Kayla Murphy, Brooke Murphy, Melissa Murphy, Carson Murphy, Ava Murphy, Abigail Murphy, Jackson Murphy, Anna Niles, Everett Niles; his brother David Murphy; his sister-in-law Kathy Lapp; and numerous nieces.

In keeping with Mike’s wishes, there will be no calling hour. The family will observe a private graveside service in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
