John P. Jurkowitz, age 79, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on August 29, 1944, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Mary Bartolic Jurkowitz.

John worked many years as the Superintendent of Danville Schools and most previously served as the gifted coordinator at the Mount Vernon High School. He was also active with the Knox County Education Service Center and was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, walking, and spending time with his canine companions.

John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann (Ware) Jurkowitz, a daughter, Julie (Brian) Ramsay of Fort Myers, Florida, a grandson, Jackson Rine, a brother, Daniel (Ronnie) Jurkowitz of Cincinnati, and a sister, Mary Jo Smutny of Chicago.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Paul Jurkowitz.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield Ave., Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050 with Pastor Cody Blust officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Highlands Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.
