MOUNT VERNON — From 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, drivers moved cautiously through the intersection of Coshocton Avenue and Upper Gilchrist Road after a farmer overturned his tractor-trailer and spilled a load of corn.
“He was coming from Upper Gilchrist and turned left onto Coshocton Avenue,” said Mount Vernon Police Chief Robert Morgan. “We feel he just turned the corner a little too fast.”
The mishap occurred at 2 p.m. Morgan said traffic restrictions were in place from 2:30 to 5.

“They tried to maintain traffic in one direction for most of the time, but they had to close it for a while to get the truck and trailer upright,” he said. “It took quite a while to get the truck right side up and the corn cleaned up.”
According to Morgan, that type of trailer hauls about 1,000 bushels of corn.
Morgan said the driver was taken to Knox Community Hospital as a precaution but appeared to have no serious injuries. The driver was cited for failure to control a motor vehicle.
