Robert L. “Bob” Hendrickson, 85, of Mount Vernon passed away on October 26, 2023 at his residence. He was born on May 2, 1938 to Elmer “Lee” and Lotha “Gene” (Reger) Hendrickson in Winchester, IN.

Charismatic and passionate, Bob got great pleasure from bringing beauty and joy to those around him. He touched many lives with his artist’s flair, be it at an organ console, with paintbrush in hand, or rearranging furniture, lighting and artwork. Bob had served as the organist and choir director of Gay Street United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon, for 30 years. He was a lifelong educator, teaching at Mount Vernon City Schools for 28 years and earlier at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. It was during the school summer breaks that Bob began to paint for extra income. He grew to become an interior decorator and excellent painter. He enjoyed music, architecture and traveling. Being very social, he would readily strike up conversation with nearly anyone he encountered, and he always loved a good party. While dogged in his own pursuits, he could be an equally enthusiastic supporter of his children’s professional ventures, their hobbies or home projects, as well as his grandchildren’s sports and artistic endeavors.

Bob is survived by his long-time partner Stan Osborn of Mount Vernon, OH; a son Karl Hendrickson (Lori Kuhn) of Yellow Springs, OH; a daughter Christy Hendrickson of Obetz, OH; grandchildren Molly, Vaughn and Kira; a sister-in-law Pat Hendrickson and niece Cindy Hendrickson, both of Olathe, KS; and nephew Brian (Deanna) Hendrickson of Lancaster, OH; step-mother Evelyn Hendrickson of Winchester, IN; close friends Lee and Marge Rhoades of Mount Vernon, OH; and many extended family members.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother Paul Hendrickson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bob’s name to the Organ Fund at Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 N. Gay St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.

Calling hours will be Friday, November 3, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:30 pm at Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 North Gay Street, Mount Vernon, OH, with a Memorial Service on Saturday, November 4 at 10:00 am, with additional calling hours immediately after, also at Gay Street United Methodist Church.
