Lonnie Keith Moreland, age 78, of Howard passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Brookdale Mount Vernon.

He was born on June 21, 1945, in Mount Vernon, to the late Robert and Erna (Frazee) Moreland. Lonnie was employed at Flxible and later transferred to North American Bus Industries and retired with over 42 years of service. He enjoyed being a firearms instructor, a hunter’s safety instructor, and conceal carry instructor. He was a longtime member of the NRA. Lonnie was known as a Master Storyteller. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and photography. But most of all Lonnie believed in Family First. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army Reserves.

He is survived by his wife, of over 55 years, Janet (Thorp) Moreland; his son Keith (Jessamin) Moreland; his daughter Sheila (Shayne) Gardner; his grandchildren, Savannah Gardner, Alexandria Muncie; his great grandchildren, Rayna Muncie, Jase Muncie; his brother Gary Moreland; and his sister Patti (John) Shellenbarger.

In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Linda Moreland.

In keeping with Lonnie’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will schedule a Celebration of Life service at a day and time to be announced.
