MOUNT VERNON — Education and training are two vital things in today’s workforce and it is important to have a mixture of both when building a career.

For those who may not have obtained their high school diploma, options might feel limited. Aspire’s Adult Diploma Program (ADP) is a fantastic way to receive a High School diploma as well as earn industry credentials through select programs at Knox Technical Center.

Adults ages 20 and older that do not have a High School diploma or GED are eligible for the program. “The ADP program is so unique as it allows students to earn both their High School Diploma and credentialing in one of KTC’s eligible programs,” says Monica Swank, Aspire and ADP Coordinator.

Students will earn and receive a State of Ohio High School Diploma at the completion of the program. They will also receive certification after completing a KTC-eligible program of their choice. The current eligible programs are HVAC, Nail Technician, Phlebotomy, and STNA.

“These are a great choice of programs that offer a wide range of in-demand skills,” says Swank. “There are possibilities of other KTC programs being added to the list, and the best way for potential students to find this information is to visit our website or by giving us a call.”

To qualify for the ADP program, students must live in Ohio, be 20 years or older without a High School Diploma or GED, and pass a series of ACT WorkKeys® assessments. The time it takes to complete the program solely relies on the industry credential chosen. In-class time will range anywhere from a couple of days a week to a whole week’s work of class time. Again, it all depends on the industry program chosen.

The most surprising aspect of the Adult Diploma Program is the cost. Students who meet the above qualifications can enroll in the ADP program at no charge.

“That’s the great thing about the program – it’s all free for the students,” says Swank. “Students will, however, need to be prepared to give their time and energy to complete the program, but it is extremely rewarding for those that do.”
