WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ohio’s two U.S. senators issued contrasting viewpoints after Tuesday night’s Senate passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.
Democrat Sherrod Brown, of Mansfield, favored the issue.
“Tonight we came together to prevent a national default that would have been catastrophic, costing Ohioans their jobs and life savings, and threatening our entire economy,” Brown said on Thursday night. “This is a bipartisan solution to avoid an economic disaster, while protecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, and other lifelines that Ohioans earn and rely on.”
Republican J.D. Vance bemoaned the move.
“I had hoped we could improve this deal through the amendment process, but the reality is this bill was beyond saving,” Sen. Vance said. “Ohioans have suffered long enough from the inflation caused by the Biden administration’s out of control budget, and this bill simply does nothing to end their spending spree.
“This is a bad deal for the people of Ohio, which is why I voted against it this evening.”
