Joseph Paul “Joe” Brown was welcomed to his Heavenly home by his loving Lord and his first wife Marjory, of 52 years, on May 5,2023. He was born on February 24,1928, to the late Paul and Rachel Brown in Mansfield, Ohio. He was a graduate of Mount Gilead High School and The Ohio State University. He served in the United States Army for 2 years during the Korean conflict.
Joe was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ruth and Esther (Keller), and 2 brothers Donald and Charles Brown; and sisters-in-law Estella Brown and Mary Brown.
Professionally, Joe was employed by The Ohio State University Agricultural College, serving the farming community in Belmont County before transferring to Knox County. He received numerous awards from many Agricultural associations during his tenure as County Extension Agent.
Joe was active in many organizations, including Ruritan, Ohio sheep association, and The Gideons, to name a few. He was active in the Nazarene Church, serving for many years on the local church board, as well as the District Layman’s Director for the North Central Ohio District.
He will be missed by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his wife Ruth (Teter) Brown; his daughter Mary (Garth) Smiechowski of Avon Park Florida; two sons, Steve (Diane) Brown of Holland Michigan, and Stanley (Deb Thomen) Brown of Cincinnati Ohio; and his stepson Sam (Ann) Teter of Harrisonburg, Virginia; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; his brother Harold (Nancy) Brown; his brother-in-law Howard Keller; his sister-in-law Elaine Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be at First Church of the Nazarene Coshocton Ave. Mt Vernon, Ohio on Monday from 10-11am. The funeral service will follow, beginning at 11am with Rev. Michael Norris Officiating. The graveside service will take place in Quakerdom Friends Cemetery (4863 US-42, Mt. Gilead, OH 43338) beginning at 2:30pm.
