MOUNT VERNON — Summer is quickly approaching, and for most schools, that usually means no class sessions and empty buildings. For Knox Technical Center (KTC), the opposite is true.

In July, four programs will all begin new classes: IT-Computer Systems & Networking, Industrial Maintenance Technician, HVACR and Welding Certification.

IT-Computer Systems & Networking will be the first of these programs to begin class with a start date of July 10.

“This version of the class will look different from what we’ve offered in the past,” said Lou Ann Shultz, program coordinator.

“We are exploring the possibility of adding more of an online component to the learning experience to better meet the ever-changing needs of today’s students.”

IT-Computer Systems & Networking involves diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware and software as well as learning operating systems and configuring and managing networks. The program duration is nine months in total.

The remaining three programs (Industrial Maintenance Technician, HVACR, and Welding Certification) will all have the same start date of July 31. These industrial programs provide many skills vital in today’s environment, and plenty of relevant jobs are available in Knox County and surrounding areas.

“I receive calls from employers almost weekly asking for students from our industrial programs. There is a big need for them in Knox County,” Shultz said.

These programs will allow students to gain practical, hands-on experience that will immediately translate to their future careers. All three of these programs can each be completed between 9 and 10 months.

Both IT and the Industrial programs are offered in the evenings to give those with a busy work schedule the ability to participate. Enrollment is currently open for these programs, and students are still being accepted.Financial aid opportunities may also be available to those looking to join one of these upcoming programs.
