MADISON TOWNSHIP — Madison’s Ohio Cardinal Conference title aspirations took a hit last week, but the state’s poll voters are still impressed with the Rams.

Madison was tied for fourth in Division II when the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association released the second of five weekly state polls Monday. The Rams are tied with Unioto with 64 points.

Madison was atop the Division II poll last week, but dropped a pair of one-run games to OCC heavyweight Mount Vernon. The Rams rebounded with a 10-2 win at Huron and are 11-2 on the season.

Athens took over the top spot in Division II, followed by Canfield and Marlington.

The Rams will play defending OCC champ Ashland in a home-and-home series this week. Madison visits Ashland on Tuesday and hosts the Arrows on Wednesday.

The only other area team to crack the Top 10 in this week’s OHSFSCA poll is Danville. The Blue Devils (12-4) are ninth in Division IV.

Danville visits River Valley on Tuesday and hosts Loudonville on Wednesday.

Defending Division IV state champ Strasburg is atop the poll in Division IV. Watkins Memorial is No. 1 in Division I while Wheelersburg is first in Division III.

The softball tournament draw will take place Sunday.
