Sandra Harlene Brown, age 89, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 13, 1934, in Willard, Ohio, the daughter of Maynard and Ruth (Anderson) Robinson.
Sandra spent most of her life in the Mansfield, Ohio area before moving to several different states due to her husband, Terry’s career as a truck driver. Since his death in 2012, she has lived with her daughter, Ellen. Sandra was primarily a stay-at-home mom, but had been employed as a Welcome Wagon lady, secretary for Central Christian Church, and a caregiver at a day care center. She was currently a member of the Palmyra Church of Christ, where she enjoyed attending Sunday School and sitting in the foyer after worship service to visit with members as they left the building. Favorite pastimes included reading her Bible and John Grisham novels, watching sports and game shows on TV, and feeding the birds and squirrels. In her younger days, she crocheted beautiful intricate doilies, sewed dresses for her daughters and made Raggedy Ann & Andy and Holly Hobby dolls for her grandchildren. She loved animals, particularly her “grand-dogs” Gracie and Bear, who depended on her to always remember their evening biscuit. Sandra was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by children from her first marriage to Wayne D. Liegey II: Ellen (Mike) Smith of Mount Vernon, Dawn (Davy) Hale of Gainesville, Georgia, and Stuart (Charissa) Liegey of Fulton, Missouri and from her second marriage to Terry Brown: Doug (Sherry) Brown of Taylors, South Carolina, and Heidi (Mike) Ramos of Denton, Texas, along with sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and a sister, Nita (Robert) Lain of Sandusky.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Brown, a daughter, Sandy (Liegey) Gomez, and a son, Wayne “Chip” D. Liegey III.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Sandra H. Brown.
Memorial contributions in Sandra’s name may be made to the Palmyra Church of Christ or the Knox County Animal Shelter.
