William Dickinson Bogardus II

William Dickinson Bogardus, II

William Dickinson Bogardus II, known to his family as Bill, died on March 2, 2023, at the age of 69, in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a brief hospitalization.  Bill was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1954, and was raised in Mount Vernon, Ohio, his father’s hometown.  Bill graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1972, and had attended his 50th high school reunion recently.  He attended Ashland College, graduating in 1976, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.  He returned to Mount Vernon for a time and at one point, was a member of the Gambier Volunteer Fire Department.  Bill began a career in Mount Vernon with Wenco (Jeld Wen) Windows in operations and sales.  His career selling building supplies took him from Mount Vernon to Kingman, Arizona, Cincinnati, Ohio, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and eventually to Las Vegas, Nevada.  Bill is survived by his children, Addison Bogardus of Carson City, Nevada, and Skylar Bogardus, of Reno, Nevada, and his stepsons, Billy and Johnny Neal. He also is survived by his brother, Thomas Bogardus, of Phoenix, AZ, and sisters, Nancy Bogardus of Rockport, MA, Kristina Bogardus of Albuquerque, NM, and Ellen Bogardus-Szymaniak, of Bayfield, WI, as well as a large extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bill cherished his memories of Mount Vernon, his childhood and school years there, and remained connected to many of his childhood friends and school mates.  Bill was known as our family historian and would tell detailed stories of our shenanigans from the past. He knew quite a bit of our family history as well as the history of Mount Vernon, and could talk for hours about his memories of friends and family there. Bill was a proud father who delighted in each of his children’s successes and events, including his son’s fencing competitions and his daughter’s marching band performances. Bill was looking forward to attending his daughter’s college graduation in May.  Details of his Memorial Service are pending.
