Margaret J. “Peg” Gorsuch, 85, of Gambier passed away surrounded by family on Friday morning, March 17, 2023 at the Country Club Rehabilitation Campus in Mount Vernon. She was born on January 22, 1938 in Mount Vernon to the late Lloyd and Helen (Titus) Smith.
Peg graduated from the Gambier High School in 1956 and the Mount Vernon Business School in 1957. She worked for Cooper-Bessemer as a secretary for 2 years before joining Earl in Olympia, Washington where he was stationed at Fort Lewis. Peg worked as a secretary at the Washington State Department of Highway. Peg was a stay-at-home mom until she went to work at Kenyon College where she worked more than 20 years in College Relations retiring in 2000. Peg was a member of the Grove Church of Christ since 1960, where she was active with the Grove Ladies Christian Circle for many years. She also taught children’s classes and Vacation Bible School at the church. Peg will be remembered for being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Peg is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Earl W. Gorsuch; children, Daniel (Michelle) Gorsuch of Gambier and Melinda (William) Dufur of Mount Vernon; cherished granddaughters, Whitney Gorsuch (Joe Calkins) Kandel, Lauren Gorsuch, Morgan (Logan) Gibbs, Katelyn (Ben) Olewiler, and Jessica (Justin Davis) Ketter; grandsons, Kaleb (Emilisa) Cunningham and Collin Pay; cherished great grandchildren, Drake, Deryka, Alyssa and Kinley Kandell, Everly Calkins, Thadius, Theodore and Trinity Gibbs and Jayden Ketter, Jaxon Davis, Aubrey Benson, Kaylenna Cunningham and Oliver Pay; siblings, Carlton (Jean) Smith, Howard Smith and Claire Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Peg was preceded in death by her sister, Jo Anne Caya.
The family will receive friends from 1p.m. until the time of a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the Grove Church of Christ, 7740 Grove Church Rd., Gambier with Minister Dave Dahlstein officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery.
